On the “Stancija” VALENCANO, only four kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, between Pula and Rovinj, this dream of their own olive grove has come true for Cornelia and Jörg. In 2022, they seized the opportunity of a two-and-a-half-hectare estate, lonely in the hinterland of the northern Adriatic 950 olive trees thrive here on the organic certified plantation in strict compliance with environmental standards.
Olive growing in Istria – the secret “capital” of olives – what a wonderful destination! The Istrian peninsula on the Adriatic coast with its mild Mediterranean climate is famous for its excellent olive oil. The deep red soil – also called terra rossa – offers perfect conditions for the cultivation of olives.
In the middle of 2006, after years of searching, families Šajatović and Paunović from Zagreb bought this 25,000 m2 plot for planting olive trees. At that time, the property consisted of a typical Istrian bush landscape – between Barbariga and Bale – not used for agriculture for several decades – the ideal place for ecological or organic cultivation of olives.
At this point we would like to congratulate and thank Mario Paunović for this initiative – especially for the help in familiarizing himself with the peculiarities of olive cultivation and olive oil production.
